

16th November - Sherburn White Rose Over 35’s 4 - 0 Fulford Over 35’s
Sherburn got back to winning ways on Sunday with a comfortable win in their rearranged game against Fulford. Sherburn’s first goal came after a fine inswinging corner from Hart was headed powerfully home by Kersley. The second Sherburn goal came with 20 minutes left in the half. A defensive mix up by the Fulford back four presented the ball to Mark Gray 30 yards from goal. Instead of panicking Gray took the ball closer towards goal and hit a powerful left foot shot into the top corner of the net.
In the second half Sherburn made a number of substitutions which seemed to disrupt the Sherburn team. One of the substitutes Lee Forbister netted twice with two well taken goals to complete a comfortable victory for the home team.

2nd November - Sherburn White Rose Over 40’s 2 - 3 Garforth Villa Over 40’s
Sherburn lost their unbeaten league record on Sunday in a bruising derby encounter. In the first 20 minutes Garforth shaded the amount of possession with the Sherburn team being asked to defend resolutely. When Sherburn managed to break into the Garforth penalty area they looked dangerous and in the 20th minute following a off the ball incident, they were awarded a penalty which Bligh coolly slotted home to put the home team 1 up. In the 30th minute Sherburn had a fantastic chance to put daylight between them and Garforth when following a sloppy back pass from McMillan was intercepted by Dunwell. Instead of taking the ball closer towards the goal Dunwell noticed the Garforth keeper off his line and tried to chip the ball over the keeper and in the end the ball went well over the cross bar. This nice chance seemed to spur Garforth on and they duly scored an equaliser just before half time with the centre forward tapping home an easy chance.
The second half was end to end stuff with some hard but fair tackles flying in as both teams looked to stamp their authority on a crowded midfield. Garforth took the lead in the 64th minute when a 4 man move ended up with the Garforth striker scoring his second goal of the game. Sherburn seemed to up the tempo after this goal and with a shuffle of the pack their created chances which Hird duly took by side footing a pass from Dunwell into the corner of the net to equalise for the home team. Just as both teams looked to be settling for the draw Garforth snatched a late winner which really can only be described as a “needless goal”. An easy backpass from the Sherburn full back Appleyard was headed to towards the Sherburn goalkeeper Norton who seemed to miss judge the speed of the ball and just knocked the ball into the advancing Garforth player’s path to side foot home the winner from 3 yards. In the last minute Sherburn hit the bar with a cross come shot from Dunwell which bounced away to safety.

26th October - Manston Over 35’s 1 - 5 Sherburn Over 35’s
Sherburn recorded an emphatic league away win on Sunday and stretched their unbeaten run to 5 games in all competitions. Sherburn fully deserved this victory as their all out attack policy caused Manston endless problems. Sherburn’s first goal came from Bligh who hit a rather speculative 20 yard shot goalwards which the Manston goalkeeper fumbled and let the ball cross the line. Sherburn’s second goal was a much better team goal with a fine 4 man move involving Hopley, Webster, Dunwell and the goalscorer Bligh. The fine move ended with Bligh netting from 15 yards.At this stage of the match Sherburn were playing the best football of the season and really should have scored a lot more goals with Gray, Dunwell and Bligh all failing to convert good chances..
In the second half Manston tried to defend deeper to stop the Sherburn onslaught and also to cut the threat of Dunwell’s pace out. In the 60th minute Manston got a lifeline when they scored a well worked goal from a right wing cross. 3 minutes later Sherburn restored their two goal lead. A defence splitting ball from Bligh found Dunwell unmarked 25 yards from goal, instead of taking the ball close towards goal Dunwell hit the ball first time and managed to beat the Manston low down to his left to score a crucial goal. This 3rd goal took the sting out of Manston and it was just a matter of how many Sherburn would end up scoring. In the 75th minute Bligh completed his hat trick finishing after a scramble in the Manston penalty area. Sherburn finished the scoring in the 80th minute when substitute Graves beat an advancing keeper to give the score a more realistic look.

19th October - Sherburn White Rose Over 35’s 4 - 0 Fulford Over 35’s
Sherburn White Rose Over 35’s extended their unbeaten record to 4 games with an emphatic 4 nil win over their Fulford counterparts. In the first 30 minutes of the half Sherburn struggled to break the resolute Fulford defence down with alittle bit of frustration creeping into the Sherburn play. When Sherburn got the ball down on the floor and played their passing game Sherburn stretched the Fulford defence and chances came their way. In the 30th minute Sherburn’s constant pressure paid off with Falky firing home from close range. With just 5 minutes of the half Sherburn scored again. Webster picked the ball up in his own half and powered towards the Fulford goal. As the Fulford defender went to tackle Webster, Webster played a 1-2 with Bligh, which put the Sherburn man clear through on goal with only the keeper to beat. Webster saw the keeper advancing towards him and picked his spot to coolly slot home.
The second half was another one sided affair with good chances falling to Dunwell, Waite and Bligh. Sherburn finally got their third goal when Dunwell was picked out in the area by an excellent back header by Quirk and Dunwell hit a left foot shot low into the bottom corner of the net from 15 yards out. In the 80th minute Williamson completed the scoring with an easy tap in after a through ball from Dunwell.
