In blustery
conditions both
teams struggled to
play neat football
but it was Sherburn
who had the earliest
chances to score,
Mason combining well
with Priestley only
for the forward's
break to end in a
hurried finish wide
of the post. Mason
then had his own
chance to score but
shot over, before
Aberford hit the
post when a
speculative cross
caught the wind and
looped over Hudson
in goal. The game
was played at a
dismal pace and
Sherburn never
really got out of
first gear, failing
to press and not
looking sharp on the
ball, yet despite
the performance
Sherburn went in at
the break 0-0. The
game seemed destined
for a bore-draw with
both teams playing
long balls, until
two quick Aberford
goals caught
Sherburn sleeping.
Two set pieces from
wide positions ended
Sherburn's good form
- the first catching
Hudson out at the
far post and the
second finding an
unchallenged player
in the box. Sherburn
now end a busy week
of fixtures with the
FA President's
Shield Final on the
31st.
