West Yorkshire Premier League                                                              First Team 6 - 0 Howden Clough

A strengthened first team returned to form in preparation for their league cup final in two weeks by beating Howden Clough at home. With Clough fighting for their survival in the West Yorkshire Premier League and travelling to Sherburn on the back of some good results, the first team expected determined opposition but quickly went three goals up with some excellent finishing from Bradley Jordan making his third consecutive start and Rob Foreman's second goal of the season, heading home from a corner.

Sherburn eased off after the lead and Howden tried to get themselves back into the game but could not break down the back four, Foreman and Hayley comfortably dealing with the away team's forwards before allowing two consecutive free headers from corners which failed to trouble Hudson in goal. The second half began with a higher tempo and Sherburn quickly netted again. Priestley broke one on one with the keeper and slotted into the corner after recovering from a heavy touch, then scored his second from the penalty spot after he was hacked in the box. Jim Jollands completed the rout when his on-target drive took a deflection past the stranded keeper.

Despite the comfortable win, Sherburn had chances to take the score into double figures - Williams hit a right footed effort and shaved the post, whilst substitute Beaston created two chances with after good work down the right wing. The win clearly boosted confidence within the squad and manager Nick Peacock was pleased with the performance and contribution of those fighting to be involved in the League Cup final.

West Yorkshire Alliance Division One                                                      Boroughbridge  3 - 0 Reserves

Through various circumstances the reserves were missing six regular players - Hudson, Collins, Horsfield, Haddock, Beaston and Jordan all missing from the squad, meaning another opportunity for Iain Macdonald to see fringe players and third team players in action before naming his District Cup final squad (May 4th).

Notable praise on the day went to experienced player Chris Parnaby who worked hard in defence and make-shift left back Liam Quirk. Sherburn's forwards struggled against strong centre-halves but the away side did create chances against an in form Boroughbridge. Despite the defeat, Sherburn have matched their points tally for last season with five games still to play; demonstrating the hard work and improvements the squad have made this year.
