West Yorkshire League Cup                                                                   First Team 0 - 1 Carlton Athletic

The First Team went out of the League Cup quarter finals, 1-0 after extra time by league leaders Carlton Athletic. Missing from the squad were Jim Jollands, Simon Haddock and Alex Booth, so Neil Dixon and Jamie Wainwright were brought back into the starting eleven, with Jamie Middleton and Danny Graham back in the first team squad.

Sherburn started the game very strongly with a midfield diamond keeping possession of the ball and causing Carlton problems. Mark Bradley and Lenny Mason had excellent chances to open the score line and were very unlucky not to do so. Good efforts from Jamie Wainwright from long range put the Carlton Goalkeeper under pressure at various points throughout the first half. Carlton eventually came into the game and were strong down their right flank, where they managed to deliver some quality crosses without being able to finish.

0-0 at the break, Ryan Hill had to be replaced by Danny Graham due to injury. Carlton had the better of the second half but were held due to an organised defence. Jamie Middleton replaced Jamie Wainwright after 60mins and could have immediately scored - forcing the Carlton Goalkeeper to make a very good save from long range. Adam Priestley replaced Scott Williams after 70mins and Nick Peacock adopted a 4-3-3 formation, causing the opposition problems on the counter attack whilst also maintaining a strong defence.

The game became very open with both sides trying to steal victory before the end of normal time. Adam Priestley was very unlucky not to net the winner in the final minutes with a volley beyond the far post.

The match went into extra time and was played end to end, until Carlton finally broke the deadlock with only a few minutes remaining - one of their players scoring a header at the far post from a deflected cross.

The management were extremely pleased with the performance but were disappointed not to be in the draw for the semi-finals. Notable praise went to the midfield trio of Lee Gemmell, Ben Webster and Jamie Middleton.

West Yorkshire Alliance Division 1                                                             Reserves 2 - 2 Ripon City

With the manager's words 'don't start this game as you finished last week's' ringing in their ears, the reserves took to the field against Ripon City with hopes that they might take an early grip of the game. A catalogue of poor passes and missed tackles gave Ripon the lead however in the first minute. A poor start and an inability to cope with the wind gave Ripon the chance to pile more pressure onto Sherburn. Quirk pulled off some fine saves but the home defence could not hold out as Sherburn conceded a second soon after.

This seemed to galvanise the team, with James Beeston and David Liddle looking to use the flanks and pushing back the opposition's wingers. Sherburn soon pulled a goal back thanks to a neat finish from Jackson after great link up play from Jamie Potter. As Sherburn looked to go in at half time 2-1 down Potter again looked dangerous in the last minutes and played Jackson in for his second.

In the second half Sherburn had numerous chances to win the match but again, poor passing and wasted chances allowed Ripon City to mount dangerous counter-attacks which could have easily ended in goals. Matthew Wilde made his debut as a substitute for Priestley and impressed immediately. Jackson was replaced by Bradley Jordan, but Sherburn could not find the winning goal. Overall, the strong wind spoiled what could have been a better spectacle as Ripon showed that they are a very good footballing side and White Rose send their best wishes to Ripon for the remainder of the season
