Sherburn stay unbeaten in the
league with a draw against last
season's runners up and County
Cup winners.
Sherburn played in a way
designed to frustrate the
opposition and to deny passes
into the feet of their excellent
front players, and were all
through the game. Sherburn
looked to make good use of the
counter attack and this way of
playing gave Sherburn the lead
when Lee Gemmell finished well
from the edge of the box.
Unfortunately Sherburn gave away
another penalty, the third in
two games, and there was only
one outcome as Rob Dickinson
stepped up to score for Bardsey.
Counter attacks continued from
Sherburn and Adam Priestly
scored a looping header over the
advancing goal keeper to put the
home side up at half time.
The second half was played out
similar to the first, with
Sherburn defending deep and
looking to counter. Bardsey
really putting the home team
under pressure but Sherburn
stuck to the task very well and
denied any real opportunities
from open play.
Scott Williams replaced the hard
working Lee Gemmell on the hour
mark and made a telling
contribution - Bradley unlucky
not to score from his cross. The
game was end to end and very
entertaining for the supporters.
After another counter attack for
Sherburn Bradley was unlucky not
to seal victory hitting the
post from a tight angle after
rounding the goal keeper. Paul
Woodhouse replaced Jamie
Wainwright and added support up
front; he also was unlucky to
head straight into the
goalkeeper's hands after another
cross from Williams.
Bardsey also continued to press
- their left wing back
was impressive going forward and
deep into the game Sherburn
conceded a corner and having
dealt well with these well all
throughout the game, they failed
to pick up Bardsey's substitute
forward who powered a header
home from close range. It was
disappointing end to what would
have been a fantastic result.
