West Yorkshire Premier League                                                                First Team 3 - 0 Rothwell Athletic

Sherburn White Rose FC made it three wins on the trot against a very determined Rothwell Athletic.

Sherburn had to make changes to the starting team for the sixth game running, this time Jamie Middleton and Ryan Hill were missing through injury. Returning to the starting team came were Alex Booth, Scott Williams and the experienced Dave Haley, Danny Withington was also brought into the squad for this game.

Sherburn faced yet another team playing 3 5 2, a very popular system in the premier league this season - it is a system which helps to dominate the centre of the park but relies on having three quality centre halves who are comfortable in full back positions and can play out from the back. It also needs players who are very fit and can defend as well as attack in the wing back areas.

Sherburn began the game very bright, Preistley and Williams enjoying freedom in the channel areas in behind their wing backs and provided many crosses into the box but Sherburn failed to make these situations count. Before Rothwell created any serious attack Booth, Woodhouse, Bradley, Williams and Preistley had made the goalkeeper work. Rothwell's first shot and only attempt on target in the first half came from a direct free kick which Simon Hudson saved very well. Rothwell are a team to their credit who want to play a possession passing style but they lacked the penetration required to hurt the home team.

Sherburn continued to attack the opposition but let themselves down in the final third of the pitch.

The second half could not have started any better for Sherburn. they took the lead within the first two minutes of the half Jollands scoring from the edge of the box beating the goalkeeper at the near post. Rothwell offered very little from open play but were a threat at times from set plays; goalkeeper Simon Hudson coped very well with these.

Sherburn's back four were well organised and it is no coincidence that with Haley at sweeper Sherburn recorded there second clean sheet. Wainwright replaced Woodhouse to enable Sherburn to match up in midfield and showed his quality playing in Preistley who was unlucky not to score. Sherburn's second goal came after excellent play from Williams who delivered a cross which was deflected in to the goal at the far post.

Withington replaced Wilde and showed he can play at this level on a regular basis after showing good skill and link up play with Bradley and was unlucky not to score himself. Preistley scored the goal of the game when he cut in from the left and unleashed a shot into top corner  a goal he deserved from an excellent performance.

Rothwell were hard team to play and made it a difficult game.
