West Yorkshire Premier League                                                                First Team 1 - 0 Pool

Playing in poor weather conditions again and on a tired pitch surface not suited to a passing game, Sherburn still managed to create three chances in behind the opposition within the first ten minutes of the game; Gemmell and Middleton (making his first start of 2008 in the team) shooting straight at the goalkeeper and also screwing a shot just wide. Pool playing a direct style looked to cause the Sherburn back four problems with high long balls, but Rob Foreman was excellent at centre half dealing with these attacks. Sherburn continued to get in behind the Pool back three at will, penetrative passing from Wainwright a real threat onto runs from Gemmell and Middleton who created chances for themselves and the returning Bradley all failed to convert. Pool's only threat came from winning set plays not just in the first half but all the game they are a very tall team but Sherburn goalkeeper Simon Hudson kept his concentration for set plays because in open play he had to play little part.
More chances in behind were created and a mixture of being unlucky and wasteful in front of goal kept the game scoreless at halftime.

The second half began with Pool forcing the issue yet again from set plays and showed danger at times but Simon Hudson was more than up to the task and coped well. Priestly replaced Williams (who didn't have as much effect in this game as in previous appearances) his pace and running with the ball caused problems for Pool's back line. Sherburn changed their system to cope against Pools 3 5 2 by going 4 3 1 2  playing Priestly as the only winger which stretched the Pool defence and created space in midfield and gaps in their high back line. The linesman then became important as Bradley broke free and scored his hardest chance of the day, it was awarded by the linesman after it crossed the line before being cleared. Haddock and Wilde replaced Bradley and Gemmell, they added fresh legs Sherburn now playing 4 2 2 2 staying compact but allowing runners on the counter attack which eventually put Wainwright through to round the GK only to be brought down, unfortunately the awarded spot kick was not converted from the spot or the rebound. Due to a lack of successful attacks from Pool this did not effect the result.
