West Riding County Cup 1st Round                                                         First Team 0 - 4 Beeston St Anthony's

Sherburn White Rose went out of the County Cup at the first stage after a disappointing performance at West Yorkshire league rivals Beeston St Anthonys.

Unlike other games where a full match report is always given, this time only a quote from the manager follows:

"I myself was not disappointed with the outcome, the reason for this being 30 league games which are very competitive and with having such a young squad throughout the club I think a run in the County Cup can put undue pressure and workload on the squad at this time. This can all have a negative effect on a league campaign. However the performance was very poor and hopefully will not be repeated when we visit Beeston when league points are at stake"

West Riding County Cup 1st Round                                                 Reserves 2 - 0 East End Park

The reserves progressed to the next round of the County Cup after a relatively comfortable afternoon at home to East End Park Reserves. Anthony O'Neill came into the starting eleven with the absence of Ryan Hudson, and Parnaby moved to centre half.

Jordan scored within the first two minutes, scoring from within the box and slotting easily under the keeper. It appeared a rout was on the cards but Sherburn failed to make the most of their chances in the first half. Most of Sherburn's football was played down the middle of the park and Withington battled well upfront with Jordan, but Haddock and Potter were rarely brought into the game. Parnaby was unlucky not to score from Haddock's corner, Collins could have scored from a goal-mouth scramble, and Withington also came close.

East End Park broke only once with the wind at their backs, but Draper pulled off a fantastic save at close range.

In the second half Sherburn again created chances early on but didn't the test the goalkeeper too much. The reserves were faced with a tense fifteen minutes of pressure, during which Draper tipped a long effort over the bar and then pulled off a fantastic penalty save after Limbert pushed an East End Park forward in the box. Following that the away side created very little for the rest of the game. Steven Wainwright calmed the home side when he scored his third of the season, turning neatly and hitting the bottom corner first time.

Overall Sherburn always looked like scoring goals and were only tested by long balls in the blustering wind. They struggle to get the ball wide however and so Haddock and Potter had a frustrating afternoon. Limbert gave a good account of himself at left back and did more than enough to challenge for a permanent place in the squad. O'Neill also had a comfortable game. The best player on the park though was Draper who appears to be settling into the squad very quickly.

Selby and District Invitation League Division 2                                         Third Team 1 - 2 Willow Park

Sherburn's 3rds travelled to Willow Park with just eleven players available, but despite the windy conditions and poor pitch they acquitted themselves well. Willow had the wind at their backs for the first half and took the lead from a free kick which deceived Monsarratt. Tattersall blazed high and wide when put through by Meaney. Rose kept pressing throughout the half and found the equaliser when a high ball was caught on the wind and the home keeper bundled the ball into the net when under pressure from Stuart Liddle.

The second half started brightly, Sherburn having a lot of possesion with Liddle, Meaney and Lund all going close. In a game where the defence of Fenton, Parnaby, Bradley, and Lancashire were dealing with the Willow threat well it was be a huge blow when Rose conceded with ten minutes to go. Despite the efforts in the final minutes Rose could not find a second equaliser and the game ended in a narrow loss. Commitment and effort were the order of the day and to this end Sherburn could not be faulted.
