Rob Foreman scored
his first SWRFC goal
of the season to
help the first team
on their way to
another cup final -
meaning the club has
three senior finals
to look forward to
over the coming
weeks. An excellent
display following a
disappointing league
defeat last Saturday
was inspired by
Sherburn's pace and
physical dominance
all over the park.
Sherburn's back four
was impenetrable
throughout, limiting
Field's strikes on
goal to long range
efforts that never
looked to trouble
keeper Hudson,
whilst the
penetrating passes
of Booth and
Jollands in the
middle, combined
with the pace of
Priestley and
Middleton upfront
posed a constant
threat throughout
the entire tie.
Sherburn could have
been five goals up
at half time,
Middleton and
Priestley both
having wonderful
chances to score but
lacking some care in
the final third -
something rectified
in the second half,
with Sherburn
finishing more
clinically.
Gemmill and Williams
worked hard on the
wings and looked to
support the Sherburn
attack wherever
possible, both had
their own chances to
score but missed the
target, but each
contributed to
Sherburn's scoring
opportunities.
The return of Haley
and Booth to the
team provided a
greater strength and
level of
organisation
allowing Jollands
and Williams to play
a freer role.
Middleton up front
worked well with
Priestley to
constantly threaten
the opponents area
and Danny Graham
fitted in well at
left back with
Hudson rarely
troubled. Any doubts
of allowing
supremacy to be
squandered were
allayed after 50mins
when Foreman sweetly
headed home a corner
and then Jollands'
rocket shot was only
parried behind by
the keeper into the
net. To complete the
victory Priestley
deftly lobbed the
keeper after running
on to a through
pass. Field had
their best spell of
the match following
the third goal but
rarely troubled the
defence marshalled
well by Haley, and
Sherburn even wasted
a few opportunities
to extend the score.
The management team
were delighted with
the performance and
now face Pontefract
Sports in the final
on May 9th.
